Equipment can all possess two titles. The first is relative to the item type, and the second increases your character's stats. The first title is additional damage to races for weapons, additional elemental damage for rings, or resistance to elements for armor. The second title works the same regardless of what type of item it is. As each character's statistics are pre-determined, bonuses from titles are the main way to make your character more powerful. Effects of each stat are as detailed below.
STR = Physical maximum attack power
DEX = Physical minimum attack power and critical rate
VIT = Physical defense, weapon gauge recovery, recovery amount from healing
INT = Magical maximum attack power
CON = Magical minimum attack power and critical rate
MEN = Magical defense, ring gauge recovery, recovery amount from healing
Equipment Stats
Through upgrading your equipment, you can raise the stats of that item. These statistics do not directly influence your character. They are used to determine what titles the equipment will possess, and everything outside of those is irrelevant. For example, raising elemental statistics on a weapon will not result in element +% as weapons cannot have that. In another example having more of a particular stat than necessary to achieve the desired title is extraneous.
If more than one title is possible the one with the highest points necessary will be chosen. For example, Str+20 and Int+30 on an item will result in Int+45% instead of Str+30%. In a slightly more complicated example, Str+99 and Int+33 and Con+31 will result in INT/CON+35% instead of STR+60%. The necessary points are what is counted, not the actual points on the item. Even though STR has a higher total than INT and CON, the title that INT+CON is currently eligible for is a 60 point sum, compared to the highest single stat title of 60% at 50 points. 60>50, not 99>64.
There are rules of priority if multiple titles have the same eligibility.
1 stat: Str > Dex > Vit > Int > Con > Men
2 stats: Str,Dex / Str,Vit > Int,Con / Int,Men > Str,Int / Dex,Con > Vit,Men
Races: Beastman > Magic Beast > Material > Undead > Majin > Dragon
Elements: Fire > Water > Wind > Earth > Light > Dark
Special Elements: Explosion/Ice > Lightning/Sand

Double Statistic Titles

Monster Race Titles
Exclusive to weapons, these enhance the physical damage you do to various monster types. Single race titles will decrease damage given to the opposite race. They are as follows:
Beastman ⇔ Magic Beast
Material ⇔ Undead
Majin ⇔ Dragon
Additionally, 65%/-40% is possible in conjunction with the use of a special title.

Elemental Damage Titles
Exclusive to rings, these will enhance your elemental damage. They are useful in increasing damage done with both magic and elemental weapons, but in the case the weapon was enchanted by somebody, it is not your elemental boosts that affect the enchanted weapon. The enchanter's elemental boosts are used when enchant is applied.
Boosting elemental damage will decrease resistance to the opposite element. Most rings can only gain titles that include its own element (For fire: single fire, explosion or sand, or all element titles can be applied). There is a 65%/-40% elemental boost through the use of +30 points and a special title.

Combined Element Titles
Just like there exist combinations of elements, dual-element titles to go with them are available. Like single-element titles, resistance to the opposite element will decrease.

Lightning ⇔ Sand

Elemental Resist Titles
Exclusive to armor pieces, these titles increase resistance to the elements. High class monsters tend to use quite a bit of magic in their arsenal, so having this can mean the difference between dying in one combo, and being able to shake it off. Increasing resistance to one element will decrease resistance to the opposite element.

Special Titles
Special titles require the use of rare 'fragments'. These unique bonuses overwrite the bonus relevant to the item type. For example 25% damage to all races cannot be combined with a special title. Additionally, any further upgrading of an item with a special title will cause the title to be lost. Due to the rarity of fragments and the semi-finality of the item once a special title is attached, careful consideration is recommended. Most special titles do not depend on the equipment's points, but a few such as 65% damage up require that the relevant stat be at +30 or higher.
